Welcome to the Lake Washington High School Girls Basketball Team's web site. Located in Kirkland, Washington, Lake Washington High School provides secondary education for students in grades 9-12 and competes in 3A in the KingCo (King County) Athletic conference. All athletics in the state are managed under the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

Kangs season comes to an end
Kangs 47, North Thurston 50
The Kangs season came to an end in the WIAA state round of 12 after losing to North Thurston 50-47 on Wednesday Feb. 28th at the Tacoma Dome. The Kangs were led by Junior Paige Citron with 12 and Sophomore Ashley Uusitalo with 11. Junior Reese Roberts pulled down 10 rebounds.
While the team was disappointed to lose this early in the state tournament (after making it to the final game in the previous 3 seasons), it was an outstanding season. The girls set numerous individual and team records. They graduate 2 players, Madison Macias and Araceli Salenga, who had great careers and will be missed!
Kangs 67, Eastside Catholic 45
The #9 seeded Kangs beat is #17 seeded Eastside Catholic in in regionals on Saturday, February 24 at Noon at Bellevue College.
Kangs sophomore Ashley Uusitalo led all scores with a career-high 30 points! The rest of the scoring was evenly distributed between Julia Benthin (9), Paige Citron (8), Madison Macias (7), Abby Sirois (7) and Reese Roberts adding 6. Madison and Julie also each pulled down 10 and 7 rebounds.
Paige also was awarded the Sportswomanship award for the game.

Kangs finish 4th in SeaKing Tournament
Eastside Catholic 53, Kangs 52
The Kangs (20-5) lost a nail biter vs Eastside Catholic (10-16) on Saturday, February 17 at Bellevue College for 3rd place in the District 2 (SeaKing) 3A Tournament. Both teams have automatically qualified for the State tournament.
Lakeside 53, Kangs 44
The Kangs lost to 21-3 Lakeside Lions on Thursday, February 15 at Bellevue College in the District 2 (SeaKing) 3A Tournament semi-finals. Freshman Julie Benthin led the Kangs with 14 pts with Ashley Uusitalo and Madison Macias contributing 9 and 8 points respectively.
Kangs 38, West Seattle 35
The #2-seeded Kangs defeated a tenacious West Seattle 38-35 on Tuesday, February 13th at Sammamish High School in District 2 ("SeaKing") tournament. Sophomores Ashley Uusitalo and Alessandra Chavez led the Kangs with 14 and 6 points with freshman Julie Benthin and Junior Reese Roberts also each contributing 6 points.

The #1 seeded Kangs (19-3) beat #2 seeded Mercer Island (14-8) to become KingCo 3A Tournament Champions on Wednesday, February 7 making it the fifth consecutive time we won the tournament. The team was led by super Sophomore Ashley Uusitalo and league MVP who had a career-high 28 points. With the win, the Kangs received a bye in the District 2 (SeaKing) Tournament that runs February 10-17. We will play on Tuesday February 13th.
The Boys team beat Mercer Island by 2 for 3rd place in the tournament.

KingCo All-Conference/League Honors
Sophomore Ashley Uusitalo was named the KingCo 3A Most Valuable Player and to the First Team this season! Ashley is averaging 16.4 points per game and currently shooting a team high 41% for 3 pointers. Her 3 pointers set an all-time record with 56 made this season.
Junior Paige Citron was named to First Team all conference this year and won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year! Paige leads the team in steals (53) and assists (84) and is second in 3 pointers made (42).
Freshman Julie Benthin who led the team in rebounds (152) and Junior Reese Roberts who led the team in blocks (31) were both Honorable mention. Julie is averaging 46% in 2-point field goals while Reese leads the team at 61%.
Coach Jeff Wilson was named Coach of the Year, an honor he also was awarded in 2021-22 and 2019-20 (the latter season also included the Washington state Coach of the Year). This year he coached the team to an undefeated 12-0 conference regular season, a feat which he also did in 2022-23, 2021-22, and 2019-20. We're lucky to have him!

Kangs 5-Peat as KingCo 3A Regular Season Champions!
The Kangs girls basketball team extended their KingCo 3A Regular Season championship streak to five and an unprecedented 48-game undefeated win streak over the other KingCo 3A schools. Winning the regular season gives us the #1 seed in the KingCo Conference tournament which will be played February 3-7 (reference).

Congratulations Seniors
Before our game with Liberty, we celebrated the contributions of our three seniors Madison Macias, Araceli Salenga and Danelle Hall with their families.
Varsity wins 3rd Place in Desert Holiday Classic
The Varsity team traveled to Palm Springs, CA over the holiday break to participate in the Desert Holiday Classic in Indio, California. The team finished in 3rd place with a record of 3-1. Junior Paige Citron was named to the All-Tournament team. Sophomore Ashley Uusitalo was unable to play due to an ankle injury suffered during our game with Arlington on December 20.
3rd Annual Fall League Champs!
Varsity won the 3rd Annual Fall League hosted by the LW Girls basketball booster club. They defeated Woodinville in the Championship to repeat as back to back Champions. Way to go, girls!
