Welcome to the Lake Washington High School Girls Basketball Team's web site. Located in Kirkland, Washington, Lake Washington High School provides secondary education for students in grades 9-12 and competes in 4A in the KingCo (King County) Crown Athletic conference. All athletics in Washington state are managed under the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). Our mascot is a Kangaroo.
Another Record Setting Year
The 2025-26 team continued to break and set records both collectively and as individuals. As a team, the girls tied the all-time points record at 1,842 and 3 point made field goals (3FGM) at 226. They also finished in the top 10 for 2 point made field goals (2FGM), rebounds, assists, and steals. They broke into the top 10 in 8 team game records.
Individually, Oregon State-bound and Senior Ashley Uusitalo owns the all-time career points record (1,643) and 3 point made field goals (263) and is in the top 10 with 330 2FGM, 467 rebounds, 324 assists, and 169 steals. For the season, she also set records with 491 points and 71 3FGM. Junior Julia Benthin set top 10 career records with 376 2FGM, 787 points, 561 rebounds, 220 assists, 171 steals, and 98 blocks. Junior Ileana Olteanu so far in her career has made 104 3FG and 156 steals. If Ileana follows her current trend, she's also on-track to set top 10 records in percentages for both free throws and 3-point field goals.

Girls Finish 5th in State Championships; Boys Place 3rd!
Kang Girls 51, Kennedy Catholic 56
The 20-11 Kangs Girls team lost a very competitive game with Kennedy Catholic in Saturday's 3rd/5th place game (NFHS replay). The Kangs leading contributors were:
Kang Boys 74, Emerald Ridge 67
The 25-5 Kangs Boys team beat Emerald Ridge on Saturday to place 3rd in the WIAA State Championships! The boys lost in the Semifinals to #2 Richland who would go on to win the 4A state championship. The Kangs were led by:
Kangs 41, Sumner 52
The Kangs lost to #8 seeded Sumner in the State Semifinals on Friday. The Kangs were led by:
Kangs 55, Woodinville 50
The Kangs beat rival and #4 seeded Woodinville 55-50 in the State Championship Quarterfinals Thursday in the Tacoma Dome. The team shot 48% from 2 point range and an outstanding 88% from the free line.
Kangs 59, Chiawana 48
The 6th seeded Kangs defeated the #3 seeded Chiawana Riverhawks at Richland High School on Friday, February 27 in the WIAA Regional. The Kangs played excellent team defense forcing a number of turnovers (15) and shot clock violations in what effectively was a road game. They also shot 64% of their 2 point field goals (top 10 all-time). The team was lead by:

Kangs Lose in Championship to Woodinville in District 1/2 Tournament
Kangs 46, Woodinville 62
The Kangs lost to Woodinville 42-62 in the WIAA District 1/2 Tournament Championship on Saturday, February 21. Even with the loss, they qualified for the WIAA Regional against #3 seeded Chiawana. Kangs game leaders:

The Kangs beat #1 seeded Bothell in overtime in the WIAA District 1/2 Semifinals on Thursday, February 19. Kangs game leaders:
Kangs 71, Glacier Peak 39
The Kangs defeated #4 Glacier Peak on Tuesday, February 17. With the win, the team automatically qualifies for the Regional. The team was led by Junior Julia Benthin's 21 points. Ileana Olteanu added 14, Senior Ashley Uusitalo 13, and Sophomore chipped in 9 points. Kangs game leaders:

The #5 seeded Kangs beat #12 Juanita at home on Saturday, February 14 in the first round of the WIAA District 1/2 Tournament. Kangs game leaders:

Kangs 47, Woodinville 70
The Kangs lost to #2 seeded Woodinville in the KingCo Semifinals on February 11. All the Semifinal teams move on to the WIAA District 1/2 Tournament. Kangs game leaders:

The 3rd seeded Kangs beat Mount Si 64-41 in the KingCo 4A Girls Basketball Tournament second round on Saturday, February 7th at home. This game will be a bit of a rubber match since Mount Si beat the Kangs in their last regular season game. Kangs game leaders:

LW Kangs Select Teams Recognition
On Wednesday, January 21 we welcomed all of our Kangs Select teams to our game against Eastlake. We honored the young players by having them participate in the national anthem, during our player introductions, halftime acknowledgment and a team photo after the game (see photos).
Senior Ashley Uusitalo becomes All-Time Leading Scorer!During the 1st game of the season, Senior Ashley Uusitalo made a mid-range jump shot to become the all-time leading scorer in school history! Hours of hard work got her to this point and we are excited to see how many more points she adds on this season.
