Girls Basketball

Welcome!

Welcome to the Lake Washington High School Girls Basketball (aka "Lady Kangs") Team's web site. Located in Kirkland, Washington, Lake Washington High School provides secondary education for students in grades 9-12 and competes in the KingCo (King County) Athletic 3A conference. All athletics in the state are managed under the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

This web site is for our students, parents, alumni, fans, faculty, staff, college coaches and media who want to know more about the team. The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams use TeamSnap to schedule practices, team meals, announcements, etc. The Varsity, Junior Varsity and C Team game results, KingCo and overall standings can be found on their respective pages.

Kangs Place 2nd in State Championship!

Kangs 38 - Garfield 39

The #4 seeded Lake Washington High School Kangaroos (21-5) lost to #2 seeded Garfield High School Bulldogs (21-0) for the second time in consecutive WIAA 3A State Basketball Championship Title game on Saturday (there was no championship in 2021 due to the pandemics). Behind Junior Rae Butler Wu's game high 16 points (4 three-pointers), the Kangs battled in an ugly game that was marred by Seniors' Elise Hani and Rosa Smith being tagged with 3 and 4 first half fouls and two Garfield player technicals.

The Kangs jumped out to an early lead behind scoring from Elise Hani, Jolie Sim, Angie Helf and Ava Uusitalo.

The top-seeded Boys team also won the KingCo Conference Championship by beating #3 Liberty 58-47 ensuring they too secured a top seed and a bye to the WIAA Tournament.

After each of the games KingCo recognized both team's all-star players including Rosa Smith's MVP (aka Player of the Year), Elise Hani and Ben Nyquist's were both being named Defensive Players of the Year and placed on the 1st Team. Kangs 3-peat as KingCo 3A Regular Season Champions!

Picture
By going undefeated (10-0 ) in the KingCo 3A conference, the Girls team three-peated as regular season champions extending their streak from 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons (due to the shortened pandemic season there wasn't a champion for 2020-21, although we were #1 at 7-1 in pod play). Winning the regular season title a 3rd time consecutively is great accomplishment, and earned us the #1 seed during the KingCo Conference Championship (which we also won).

Congratulations to the Boys team who at 11-1 are also KingCo 3A Regular Season Champions!

This is the first time ever that both of Lake Washington's Girls and Boys basketball teams are simultaneously KingCo regular season and Tournament champions!

Congratulations girls and Coach on being recognized for your outstanding success!

*Unfortunately, the 2020-21 Pandemic season was only 8 games which undoubtedly dramatically impacted the ability for the girls potentially breaking the records last year.

For details on all LWHS GBB records, please view our History page. Our Photos page captured the celebration and awards presentation.

Junior Varsity Finishes the Conference Undefeated!

The Junior Varsity wrapped up their season on an 11 game win streak with their only losses to 4A Issaquah and a tough road game at Arlington. They were unbeaten in conference play at a perfect 9-0. Congratulations girls on an excellent year!

What distinguishes a great player is her presence. When she goes on to the court, her presence dominates the atmosphere.
