The #3-seeded Kangs were defeated by #1 Garfield in the 3rd straight state championship for both teams. Senior Sydney Hani led the Kangs in scoring with 15 points on 2 for 3 (75%) 2FG and 3 of 5 (60%) 3FG. The Kangs jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter forcing the Bulldogs to call a timeout. Garfield regrouped to tie the score 27-27 at the end of the quarter. The #3 seeded Kangs beat #2 Arlington 70-64 behind 20 points for Senior Jolie Sim. Arlington had an 8-point lead at halftime before the girls locked down defensively, moved the ball well and started chipping away at the lead eventually tying it at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Kangs had a 10-point lead with several minutes to go before two fouls behind the arch allowed Arlington to get within 5. Arlington's strategy of putting the Kangs at the line failed as the team hit crucial free throws none bigger than Senior Angie Helf sealing the win with 2 straight. With 10 3-point field goals made, the team tied the top 10 all-time record.

The Kangs were down 8 with 2 min left in the 3rd quarter before senior Sydney Hani went on her own personal 12-0 run to give the Kangs the lead. The 4th quarter went back & fourth before senior Jolie Sim had 2 clutch layin's in the final 1:30 of the game.

Senior Sydney Hani, who was named tournament MVP, led the Kangs with 16 points including 4 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter. With the win, LW gets a bye, advances to the Quarterfinals in the WIAA state tournament, and improves their record to 24-2.

The Lady Kangs defeated #2 seeded Juanita 66-45 in the King County 3A Championship game on Wednesday night. This is the girls fourth straight conference tournament championship. With the win the team secured the #1 KingCo seed in the District 2 3A Playoffs (aka SeaKing). Our defense, ball movement and success at the free throw line were excellent.

Kangs 3-peat as KingCo 3A Regular Season Champions!
By going undefeated (12-0 ) in the KingCo 3A conference, the Girls team four-peated as regular season champions! They have won 36 conference games in a row spanning back to the 2019-2020 season!

Several Kang players were named to the KingCo 3A All-Conference teams.
Sydney Hani
The senior guard, who wasn't able to play last year do to a torn ACL, was named to the 1st team. Sydney played in all 21 games this year (so far) averaging 42% from 2-point and 41% from 3-point range. Additionally, she the team's leading rebounder at 6.9 and blocks at 1.4 per contest. Being the "center" of attention (get it?), she also dished out 2.7 assists per game.
Senior Rae Butler Wu, Sophomore Paige Citron and Freshman Ashley Uusitalo were all named to the second team. Rae shot 44% from the field, Ashley shot 41% from behind the arc. Both she and Rae averaged 1.5 made 3-pointers per game. In addition to second team, Paige was named Defensive Player of the Year. In addition to a second team best 61 steals, she's a do everything guard who is second on the team for FG% (51%), rebounds (5.3) and assists (2.8). She also gets to the free throw line more than any other player at a remarkable 49% free throw rate.
Seniors Jolie Sim and Angie Helf were honorable mention. Jolie is tied for the most steals per game (2.1) along with Angie who also leads the teams in at 3.5 per game.

Kangs win 4 Consecutive KingCo 3A Regular Season!
JV wins KingCo for 3rd Straight Year
By going undefeated (12-0 ) in the KingCo 3A conference, the Varsity team 4-peated as regular season champions extending their streak from 2018-19 season (due to the shortened pandemic season there wasn't a champion for 2020-21). Winning the regular season title a 4th time consecutively is great accomplishment, especially for our Seniors who've never not won the 3A KingCo! By winning the regular season, we earned the #1 seed during the KingCo Conference Tournament Championship.
The Junior Varsity team also won the KingCo 3A conference for an amazing third consecutive year! They finished 11-1 in the conference and 14-4 overall. Congratulations JV! Well deserved.

Varsity Wins Cactus Jam Tournament in Arizona!
The Varsity won all 3 games in Phoenix, Arizona to win the Cactus Jam Tournament's Girls Cactus Division! On December 27, the girls beat Riverside (Canada) 59-53 in what would be their closest game during the tournament. They defeated Sunnyslope (Arizona) the next day 58-38 and won their final game against 6A Grants Pass (Oregon) 60-35 on Friday, December 30th.
Sydney Hani was named the Tournament Division MVP and was selected to the All Tourney Team along with Paige Citron!

Varsity Wins Fall League Playoff Championship!
LWHS GBB Booster Club sponsored the Fall League again this year. The Varsity beat a tough Stanwood to team to take the championship in the single elimination bracket while the JV finished second after falling to Bothell. See Photos for photographs for a number of the games. It was a great year and another successful fund raising event that we hope to continue doing every year.
